Dr. Liz Lincoln

I am a practicing general internist with more than 30 years of experience. As a consultant at the Massachusetts General Hospital Benson Henry Mind Body Institute, I lead physician-only stress management groups that include peer support. I am an academic physician who has held faculty positions at the University of Illinois in Chicago, Yale School of Medicine, and Harvard Medical School. I have worked as a professional and physician coach since 2020, and I am Wellcoaches certified.

I am married and we have four wonderful adult children. A few years ago, I was stressed and on a pathway that was injurious to my health. As I incorporated stress management principles, had a spiritual awakening, and learned to invest time in myself through practicing self-compassion, I was able to discover what brings me joy both professionally and personally and achieve what is now my ultimate goal — a more balanced life true to my values.

Presently, my focus is the wellness of professionals. I love to be a catalyst for professionals to thrive. I believe one of the root causes of burnout has been unrealistic expectations placed on us by the medical system. The wisdom of putting ourselves first, our colleagues and teams second, and those we serve next, finds our cups full to be our best selves. That is the power of self-compassion.
